Burning images into memory
Inspired by Nyai Roro Kidul, Javanese Queen of the Southern Sea — the fierce waves and storms summon the awe and fear she commands. Dance by Devi Eka Ariyani at the sacred site of Parangkusumo Beach; music by Nine Inch Nails.
Red-crowned cranes move with a divine grace — bowing, then drawing others into the ritual with piercing calls, voices rising in unison. For the Ainu, they are messengers of Sarorun Kamuy, god of the wetlands, a bond between humanity and nature.
Landscapes for AMEX
